Purebred Beef Cattle Producer Resources

Through the CBBC Purebred Risk Assessment (PBRA) project we have developed new risk mitigation tools for purebred beef cattle producers.
You may access free downloads here, and read about how these tools can enhance your purebred cattle business operations and help mitigate inherent risks in the production and marketing of purebred genetics.

Watch this tutorial to help you use the tools and learn about the benefits they offer.

CBBC Purebred Producer Cost of Production (COP), Product Pricing and Benchmarking Workbook

A key to long-term profitability in the cattle business is to analyze and manage production costs. There is no greater risk to a producer than a lack of profitability; banks demand profitability, and families need it.

This unique COP workbook is tailored specifically to purebred beef cattle producers. It is an interactive tool providing key cost-analysis and benchmarking functions. It can help you manage your production costs, make the most of available farm and family resources and ensure the long-term profitability of your purebred operation. The information tracked and evaluated through this tool allows you to make informed decisions, evaluate the return on investment and profitability of each aspect of your purebred cattle programs, and plan for the future.

Purebred Sales Reporting Workbook

This Purebred Sales Reporting Workbook provides a tracking tool for you to capture your annual purebred beef cattle sales. This tool is useful to you and the information it captures is critical to the sector. CBBC is developing a database to capture this information from producers in order to establish national sales reporting to help confirm and validate the inherent higher value of purebred cattle.

Lenders have confirmed to CBBC they require third party verification if they are to recognize the appropriate value of purebred cattle. Currently, all cattle in Canada are generally assessed at commercial values only. Once CBBC collects sales data from producers – we will, on behalf of the sector, post national sales information to our website to help substantiate cattle values with lenders, insurance companies and government programs.

We ask you please, as a purebred beef cattle producer, to complete this tool with your 2008 sales information and submit to CBBC as soon as possible: nsr@beefbreeds.ca For 2009 on, producers will be asked to submit sales reports semi-annually. Producers’ individual information will always remain confidential.
